1950–1980 Repertorio. I mobili e i contributi per una storia dell'arredo italiano, by Giuliana Gramigna, (hardcover) is one of the most important and frequently consulted publications on the history of postwar Italian design. Published by Mondadori, this volume has become an essential reference work for collectors, architects, interior designers, gallery owners, and design historians. The book brings together hundreds of pieces created between 1950 and 1980, documenting the work of the designers and manufacturers who transformed Italy into a global powerhouse of modern design. Its pages feature iconic pieces from brands such as Cassina, Artemide, Kartell, Poltronova, Zanotta, B&B Italia, and Gavina, alongside designers of the caliber of Gio Ponti, Joe
Colombo, Ettore Sottsass, Vico Magistretti, Gae Aulenti, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Marco Zanuso, and Superstudio, among many others.
Thanks to its thorough documentation, photographs, and technical specifications, this publication is routinely used as a tool for identifying, cataloging, and authenticating 20th-century Italian design furniture and lighting.
Giuliana Gramigna was an Italian architect, designer, and writer, a leading figure in Italian design during the second half of the 20th century. In 1961, she began a close professional collaboration with architect and designer Sergio Mazza, with whom she founded the Mazza & Gramigna studio. Together, they developed architectural, interior, and industrial design projects for major Italian firms such as Artemide, Arflex, Cinova, Poltrona Frau, Quattrifolio, and Valenti, creating pieces characterized by formal elegance, technical innovation, and a balance between function and aesthetics.
