Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild is the second red wine of the mythical Château Mouton Rothschild, one of the Premier Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac (Bordeaux). It is made with grapes from the same estate as the Grand Vin, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, accompanied by Merlot and, to a lesser extent, Cabernet Franc, but from younger parcels or selections that do not go into the main wine. It is distinctly Pauillac in style, with aromas of ripe black fruit, cassis, graphite, spice and a touch of oak, but it is more accessible and expressive in its youth than Château Mouton Rothschild, with softer tannins and a somewhat less powerful, though very refined, profile. It is a high quality, elegant and structured wine that can be enjoyed before the Grand Vin, but also has cellaring capacity for several years.
