Domaine de Chevalier, one of the most renowned properties in Pessac-Léognan, is hidden in the woods, as if it were a secret garden. Its origins are humble, because until the second half of the 19th century, a large part of the estate was still covered by forests. It is true that some documents from the 17th century already mention the then known as Domaine de Chivaley, but at that time, the vineyard coexisted with other crops and animal husbandry. Domaine de Chevalier acquired its fame much faster than most Bordeaux wineries, a fact that can be explained by the exceptional quality of its terroir, but also by the small number of owners who have commanded it throughout history. Only three people have ruled Chevalier since 1865, the considered the beginning of its modern history, until the current owners: the Bernard family.
