A painter and printmaker, Francesc Artigau trained at the Schools of Arts and Crafts and Fine Arts of Sant Gergi in Barcelona, and later received the Castellblanch scholarship. He is a passionate advocate for the artisanal aspect of painting, and his work reflects influences from Pop Art, later evolving without losing touch with everyday life, always within a colorful figurative style. An admirer of Piero della Francesca and Matisse, Artigau plays with perspectives and illusionistic effects in his treatment of timeless themes such as women, the model, and the artist’s studio. He has held exhibitions both in Spain and abroad, and among his awards are the Terrassa City Council Award and the City of Hospitalet Award. Painting and literature often intertwine in his paintings and other artistic projects, such as book illustration. His work is represented in the Museums of Contemporary Art in Madrid and Seville, as well as at MACBA in Barcelona.
