DESCRIPTION
VICENTE OLIVER ARASANZ (Barcelona, 1896–1970).
“Cala els Burros, Lloret de Mar,” 1959.
Oil on panel.
Signed in the lower left corner. Signed, dated, and titled on the reverse.
Measurements: 38 x 46 cm; 50 x 58 cm (frame).
Vicente Oliver trained in Barcelona at the Escuela de La Lonja, where he studied under Gelabert. He did not hold his first solo exhibition until 1940, in Barcelona, followed by exhibitions at the Eureka galleries in Madrid and La Pinacoteca in Barcelona (1964), as well as in Florida (United States) in 1960. In 1978, the Padró Gallery held a retrospective exhibition of his work. Vicente Oliver’s artistic language evolved from a well-executed academic style to the very limits of abstraction, passing through an Impressionist period and a phase of intense chromatic exuberance. Although he worked in various genres, he was particularly noted for his depictions of underwater landscapes.
