DESCRIPTION

Seals were a common feature of the material culture of the Sassanid Empire, used in both administrative and private contexts. They were frequently carved from hard and semiprecious stones, and many examples feature punctures that allowed them to be worn on a cord or incorporated into other personal items. Chalcedony was one of the materials used by Sassanid artisans due to its hardness and suitability for carving.
