Louis-Antoine Nicolle de Lacroix was a French clergyman and geographer born in Paris in 1704. He devoted himself particularly to the study and teaching of geography and achieved widespread recognition with his *Géographie moderne*, a work originally published in France during the 18th century and used for decades as a textbook. The Spanish version was translated and expanded by Josef Jordán y Frago, who included a new geographical description of Spain. The 1779 Madrid edition was printed by Joaquín Ibarra and appeared in eight volumes; the photographed copies correspond to volumes II and III.
