German mantel clock inspired by French models from the Louis XIV period, particularly the decorative tradition associated with André-Charles Boulle. Its design revives the Baroque decorative repertoire through a profuse combination of sculptural elements, gilded moldings, and surfaces finished in tortoiseshell-effect.
The case features an architectural structure with mixtilinear profiles, enriched with volutes and crowned by a cherub with raised arms. The dial, featuring Roman numerals, displays elaborate relief decoration. On the lower section, two classically inspired female figures compose an allegorical scene amid garlands and plant motifs. The gilded finials and figurative ornamentation accentuate the piece’s theatrical character.
The clock reflects the historicist revival of 17th- and 18th-century French clockmaking models, reinterpreted during the 20th century. It incorporates a movement from the German manufacturer Franz Hermle & Sohn, a firm founded in 1922.
