Wood in various shades.

This bookend is an interesting example of French decorative arts from the 1930s, when the Art Deco style incorporated geometry, staggered volumes, and hallmarks of contrast in materials into the design of everyday objects. Its design combines the functionality of a desk accessory with a carefully crafted composition of an architectural nature.
The piece is mounted on a light-colored wooden base, featuring a longitudinal rail that allows the stops to be moved and their arrangement adjusted to accommodate the number of books. The stops have semicircular profiles crafted from woods of varying shades, ranging from natural finishes to dark browns. One end stands out in particular, consisting of three stacked elements of staggered heights—a solution that evokes the geometric compositions characteristic of Art Deco. The combination of curved and straight lines, together with the expressiveness of the natural wood grain, gives the piece an appealing balance between simplicity and elegance.
