DESCRIPTION
Ceiling lamp; Inspired by designs by VERNER PANTON, mid-20th century.
Chrome-plated metal and circular opal glass discs.
No liability is assumed, nor is any warranty offered, regarding the electrical components.
Measurements: 120 x 60 x 60 cm.
Ceiling lamp with a chrome-plated metal frame, square base, and circular opal glass discs suspended by thin chains. Its geometric composition and the repetition of circular elements evoke the aesthetic of 1960s Scandinavian design, characterized by experimentation with materials, visual lightness, and the prominence of lighting as a decorative element.
The piece draws on the innovative style of Verner Panton (1926–1998), a Danish architect and designer who trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he studied architecture from 1947 to 1951. After working at Arne Jacobsen’s studio, he founded his own studio in 1955 and forged an innovative career in furniture, lighting, and interior design. Among his major milestones are the creation of the famous Panton Chair (1967), his revolutionary Visiona environments (1968 and 1970), and various international accolades, such as the Rosenthal-Studio Award in 1966 and his knighthood in the Order of the Dannebrog in 1998. His work is represented in major museum collections, including those of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein.
