Measurements: 34 × 28 × 28 cm.
Square-shaped wastebasket, consisting of four wooden stiles and black leather panels finished with light-colored saddle-stitching. The exposed structure, balanced proportions, and contrast between materials evoke the design language of Jacques Adnet and the functional elegance of 1950s French furniture. The stitching serves a decorative purpose and highlights the craftsmanship of a piece designed for everyday use.
Jacques Adnet was a French designer and interior decorator associated with Art Deco and the development of modern furniture. Beginning in 1928, he headed the Compagnie des Arts Français, where he championed an aesthetic of clean lines that combined functionality and artisanal quality. His furniture and accessories are distinguished by the use of wood, metal, glass, and—especially—leather with saddler’s stitching, one of his most recognizable features during the 1950s, when he collaborated with Hermès. This combination of simple geometry and meticulous finishes explains the stylistic connection between the wastebasket and his body of work.
