DESCRIPTION
JORDI CASABLANCAS I MUNTAÑOLA (Barcelona, 1940–2001), for Muebles Casablancas.
Pair of coffee tables, c. 1970.
Oak.
One of them has a chip in the tabletop.
Measurements: 38 x 70 x 70 cm (x2).
A set of oak tables distinguished by a design based on straight lines and understated proportions, characteristic of the Mediterranean rationalism of the era.
Jordi Casablancas Muntañola was part of the generation that sought to modernize Spanish furniture by incorporating principles of Scandinavian design and the Modernist movement, while maintaining a connection to natural materials and artisanal techniques. These chairs exemplify that pursuit: modernity with local roots. In addition to furniture, Casablancas also designed several interiors and contributed to the promotion and teaching of design as a professor at various universities and as a member of the FAD (Fomento de las Artes Decorativas). Some of his most notable designs include the S 6 chair (1966), the S 5 armchair (1979), and the changing table (1970). He was also an economist.
