DESCRIPTION
KAI KRISTIANSEN (Denmark, 1929) for Magnus Olesen.
Two-seater sofa, “Paper Knife” model.
Teak wood frame; upholstered with new wool fabric from Kvadrat.
In excellent condition.
Measurements: 78 x 118 x 80 cm.
Teak wood frame, with curved armrests characteristic of this series, and seat and backrest upholstered in new Kvadrat wool fabric. The design stands out for the elegance of its lines and the visual lightness of the frame, which provide comfort without sacrificing formal purity. The fluidity of the armrests, whose profile evokes the blade of a paper knife, defines the identity of one of the most representative styles of mid-20th-century Scandinavian design.
Kai Kristiansen (b. 1929) was a leading figure in postwar Danish design, renowned for his functional, ergonomic solutions and highly refined craftsmanship. The Danish firm Magnus Olesen, founded in 1937, played a significant role in the development and production of modern furniture, collaborating with designers who helped cement the international prestige of Scandinavian design. The Paper Knife series is one of the most recognizable examples of this design language, in which the tradition of woodworking is combined with a modern conception of form and comfort.
