BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Set of six chairs; THUR-OP-SEAT / PAGHOLZ; Germany, 1960s.
Chrome-plated tubular steel and compressed wood with teak-colored veneer.
Each chair bears the manufacturer’s stamp and an identification number.
In good overall condition, with slight signs of wear consistent with its age and use. Chrome-plated steel frames are in good condition.
Measurements: 70 x 40 x 45 cm (x6); 40 cm (seat height).
Set of six chairs with a functionalist aesthetic, characterized by their chrome-plated tubular steel frames and their seats and backs made of molded compressed wood. The combination of shiny metal with the visual warmth of the teak-toned finish creates a textural hallmark of mid-20th-century modern furniture. Their clean lines, lightweight construction, and the ergonomic curvature of the wooden elements reflect the principles of functionality, durability, and formal economy characteristic of 1960s industrial design.
The collection draws on the European tradition of furniture for communal use, in which manufacturers such as Galvanitas and Pagholz developed durable solutions by combining metal frames with molded wood panels. Designed for domestic spaces, offices, and institutional settings, these chairs reflect a desire to reconcile comfort, industrial production, and structural simplicity. The manufacturer’s stamps and identification numbers on each piece are key elements for cataloging and attribution.
