BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Side table; Mid-Century, ca. 1970.
Iron and gilded metal.
Shows signs of wear.
Measurements: 39 x 74 x 46 cm.
A sculptural side table, conceived as a decorative piece in which the metal structure takes center stage. The tabletop is articulated by geometric gold leaf motifs, arranged to create an ornamental effect inspired by plants, contrasting with the lightness of the supporting structure, which consists of a slender iron tripod base.
The combination of stylized organic forms, geometry, and gold accents evokes the decorative style of the 1960s and 1970s, when accent furniture incorporated sculptural elements and references to nature. The Mid-Century Modern style reached its peak popularity between the 1950s and 1970s, amid economic recovery and the transformation of homes following World War II. The expansion of industrial production, new materials, and the emergence of a more modern society drove the development of furniture that combined functionality, affordability, and formal experimentation. Influenced by Scandinavian design and the European avant-garde, this movement embraced clean lines, lightweight structures, and organic forms, gradually incorporating sculptural elements and sumptuous finishes. Its international spread—fueled by interior design magazines, exhibitions, and the rise of domestic culture—cemented an aesthetic that is still appreciated today.
