DESCRIPTION
TERUAKI OHASHI (Aichi, Japan, 1938–1992).
Stool.
Metal.
With a Louis Vuitton Fashion Show label.
Measurements: 47.5 x 48 x 30 cm.
Designed by Teruaki Ohashi, this stool combines a curved, curule-inspired seat with a lightweight metal frame and diagonal reinforcements. The piece is linked to the 2018 Louis Vuitton fashion show, a connection that adds interest to its sculptural design and places it at the intersection of furniture, fashion, and set design.
Teruaki Ohashi was a Japanese architect and furniture designer. He trained at the Kuwasawa School of Design and studied architecture under Kazuo Shinohara. He opened his own studio in 1972 and taught at Tokyo Zokei University. He collaborated with architects such as Toyo Ito, Itsuko Hasegawa, and Kazunari Sakamoto, developing furniture in close harmony with the spaces that housed it. His work is notable for its experimentation with lightweight structures, open geometries, and industrial materials, viewing furniture as a field of functional and artistic research. The M+ Museum in Hong Kong houses his archive of drawings and projects, a testament to his contribution to Japanese design in the second half of the 20th century.
