The “Mirror Ball” collection is one of Tom Dixon’s most renowned creations, noted for its innovative use of materials and its futuristic-inspired aesthetic. Winner of the ELLE Deco International Design Award in the lighting category in 2005, it explores the expressive possibilities of reflective surfaces through an advanced vacuum-metallization process applied to polycarbonate. The result is lightweight spheres with a mirror finish that reflect their surroundings and create evocative lighting effects.
This lamp features six spheres of varying sizes, arranged at different heights on a slender metal structure with a tripod base. Their asymmetrical arrangement creates a dynamic composition with a distinctly sculptural character, in which the spherical forms appear to float around the central axis. The combination of chrome-plated surfaces and translucent areas allows for a balance between specular reflections and warm ambient lighting.
Tom Dixon is one of the leading figures in contemporary British design. Self-taught, he began his career experimenting with metal and industrial materials, and later collaborated with firms such as Cappellini and Habitat. In 2002, he founded his own brand, specializing in furniture, lighting, and accessories. Honored with the Order of the British Empire in 2001 for his contribution to design, his work is represented in institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).
