The Chanel Single Flap is part of the history of one of the most recognizable designs in luxury leather goods: the French fashion house’s flap bag. Its origins lie in the Chanel 2.55, introduced in February 1955 by Gabrielle Chanel, who added a chain strap so the bag could be worn over the shoulder, offering a practical alternative to the clutch bags typical of the era.
In 1983, Karl Lagerfeld reinterpreted this design and solidified the identity of the Classic Flap, incorporating elements that would become hallmarks of the brand, such as the interlocking double-C clasp and the chain interwoven with leather. Although both models share a similar silhouette, the 2.55 and the Classic Flap have significant differences in their closures and construction details.
