DESCRIPTION
Devotional pendant, ca. 1940–1950, with chain. Made of 18-karat gold, carved bone, platinum, and rock-cut diamonds. The initials of the former owner are engraved on the reverse.
Total weight: 27 g.
Measurements: 4.2 x 3.3 cm (medallion, excluding the bezel); 42 cm in length (chain).
A unique devotional piece of jewelry from the mid-20th century, featuring a half-length figure of the Virgin carved from bone, set within an elaborate gold setting with curved, enveloping forms. The composition is enhanced with platinum accents and rock-cut diamonds, which add contrast and luminosity to the piece.
The piece combines the tradition of private religious jewelry with the ornamental style characteristic of the 1940s and 1950s, when yellow gold took on a special prominence in voluminous designs with a striking visual presence. The inclusion of a figurative bone carving adds an extra layer of artisanal interest and reinforces the medal’s unique character.
The initials and date on the reverse side can be removed at the buyer’s request.
