Padua; 16th century.
Bronze.
Measurements: 10 x 14 cm.
A bronze vessel with a polygonal profile, featuring a wide mouth and a molded rim, decorated on the body with reliefs of anthropomorphic figures, plant motifs, and ornamental elements in the classical tradition. The composition is completed by geometric and plant-based friezes at the top, as well as a molded circular base.
The piece features rich relief ornamentation, with chiseled details and a dark patina that enhances the volumes and golden hues of the surface. Its decorative style is rooted in the artistic tradition of the Italian Renaissance, characterized by the revival of classical models and a taste for ornamental bronze sculpture.
During the 16th century, Padua was one of the leading cultural centers in northern Italy, closely linked to the development of the Renaissance and the revival of artistic models from classical antiquity. The production of small bronze objects, intended for both domestic use and interior decoration, was part of this renewed interest in sculpture, mythology, and classical decorative motifs. The combination of relief figures, ornamental friezes, and plant motifs found in this piece reflects the Renaissance taste for decorative richness and the integration of sculptural elements into small-scale objects.
