DESCRIPTION
ADOLFO CIPRIANI (Italy, active 1880–1930)
“Female Bust.”
Marble and alabaster.
Signed.
Measurements: 41 x 40 x 20 cm. (sculpture).
The sculptor Adolfo Cipriani, active from the late 19th century through the early decades of the 20th century, developed a style rooted in the Belle Époque and influenced by Modernism, characterized by a stylized idealization of great beauty that was entirely his own. He created works in various formats, using marble, alabaster, terracotta, and bronze. His favorite subject was always the female figure, and he produced numerous portraits of young women dressed as peasant girls, as well as in more fantastical, Eastern-inspired attire. He also created works with themes centered on children and local customs, in the tradition of naturalism, as well as mythological subjects. Today, works by Cipriani are preserved in numerous private collections and museums around the world.
