José Casamayor Sánchez, also known as Pepe Casamayor, began his artistic training at the age of eight, attending drawing and painting classes taught by the watercolorist Juan de Dios Morcillo, where he met the painter Evaristo Guerra and the artist Joaquín Lobato. He later turned to sculpture as a self-taught artist, initially experimenting with clay modeling.
His first solo exhibition took place in 1976 in Vélez-Málaga. Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, presenting his work in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Brussels, London, and San Francisco. He has received various awards and honors, including recognition at competitions in Málaga, Parla, and Cádiz. Among his public works, sculptures in Vélez-Málaga, Málaga, Nerja, Guadix, and Zaragoza stand out, as well as religious imagery for Holy Week in Vélez-Málaga. His work can be found in private collections and public spaces, and he is considered one of the leading figures in contemporary sculpture in the Axarquía region.
