Mario Comandini (1913–1991) was an Italian artist, sculptor, and printmaker known primarily for his work in medal design and the creation of three-dimensional pieces.
Throughout his artistic career, he excelled primarily in two areas:
As a medalist and printmaker, he designed notable commemorative and collectible medals commissioned by institutions such as the Monnaie de Paris (the Paris Mint). His creations include medals dedicated to the world of sports (such as track cycling, cyclocross, and Greco-Roman wrestling) and to great masters of classical painting (such as the Renaissance painter Giorgione).
As a sculptor, he created freestanding works in various materials, such as plaster and bronze. His pieces reflect classical and figurative themes, notably including study sculptures such as “Mère et son enfant” (Mother and Her Child).
