DESCRIPTION
Set of four Corinthian capitals; 18th century.
Carved and gilded wood.
Measurements: 24 x 26 x 5 cm.
Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló.
Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935).
Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance.
An ornamental set consisting of four Corinthian capitals, crafted from carved and gilded wood, designed to be mounted on pilasters. The pieces come in two sizes, arranged in pairs with matching designs, allowing for a harmonious and balanced architectural arrangement.
Their composition draws inspiration from the classical repertoire of the Corinthian order, characterized by the decorative richness of acanthus leaves and the development of plant motifs. The gilded finish enhances the relief of the carving and adds luminosity, evoking the sumptuous character of 18th-century interior decorative schemes. The flat back confirms its suitability for an architectural support, facilitating its installation flush against a wall surface.
