L. Felli was an Italian sculptor active between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, specializing in the depiction of classically inspired female figures. His work falls within the Italian academic tradition, characterized by anatomical refinement, elegant compositions, and a decorative sensibility close to the Modernist style.
This work depicts a nymph in a delicate, contemplative pose, with a composition of sinuous lines and meticulous modeling of the female nude. The naturalistic treatment of the anatomy, the fluidity of the drapery, and the harmony of the movement reflect the sculptor’s technical skill. This same model has been documented in Carrara marble and alabaster, evidence of its reproduction in different materials.
Of particular note is the presence of the mark “CH. GAUTIER BRONZIER,” corresponding to the French bronze castor Charles Gautier, whose activity is documented in the early decades of the 20th century. His mark is a key element for identifying and contextualizing the production of this bronze and highlights the work’s connection to the French art market of the time.
