DESCRIPTION
Lattice; Spain, c. 1960.
Gilded iron.
Measurements: 260.5 x 104 cm.
This lattice is organized from a repetitive module of symmetrical scrolls inscribed in rectangular frames, generating a continuous grid of uniform rhythm. The use of "S" curves and scrolls refers to historical repertoires of baroque and rococo, although here they are refined and serialized, in keeping with a modern sensibility. The regularity of the pattern and the economy of ornamentation are evidence of a contemporary adaptation of traditional languages, characteristic of post-war Spanish production, where wrought iron craftsmanship maintained a relevant role.
In the context of the Spain of the 1960s, marked by processes of economic modernization and cultural openness, this lattice can be interpreted as a testimony to the continuity of craftsmanship within an architectural panorama.
