DESCRIPTION
Hereke rug. Turkey, 1920.
Pure Sera. 1,300,000 knots.
Presents faults in the lower border.
Measurements: 185 x 125 cm.
This handmade Turkish carpet, executed in pure silk with high density urban knot, is an exceptional piece due to its complex iconography. The central composition illustrates the figure of the archangel Israfil carrying the Soor, the symbolic horn that, according to tradition, announces the Day of Judgment and the resurrection. On a field of beige tones, a figurative scene of great dynamism unfolds. The design is completed with a border of three bands, where the larger band integrates cartouches with detailed female portraits, alternating with finely executed ornamental motifs.
