This astronomical pendulum clock "LAVIGNE PARIS" is presented as a piece of fine watchmaking that transcends its utilitarian function to be placed in the field of scientific and decorative objects of prestige. Made of gilded bronze, enameled metal and gilded elements, the ensemble stands out for its material richness and the complexity of its design.
The composition integrates, in the same body, various measuring instruments: clock, thermometer, barometer and hygrometer, arranged laterally as complementary indicators of the weather and atmospheric conditions. At the top, a world map crowned by an astrolabe introduces a symbolic and cosmographic dimension, evoking the tradition of historical scientific instruments.
The quartz mechanism coexists with an aesthetic of classic roots, reinforced by the inscription "Heure Lavigne à Paris since 1848", which underlines the continuity of a brand linked to the French watchmaking tradition. Presented in its original Wolfers case, the object also acquires an added value as a collector's item. . In the mid-nineteenth century, in the heart of Paris, Charles Victor Hour's workshop was founded at a time when watchmaking not only measured time, but also interpreted it. Over the decades, that craft evolved, was transformed into alliances and new hands, to give rise to the Hour Lavigne firm, consolidated in the twentieth century.
