It represents the Egyptian goddess Neith, goddess of war and hunting, but also of wisdom, thus assimilating the Greek divinity Athena. It is a very ancient divinity dating back to pre-dynastic Egypt. She is usually represented with the crown of Lower Egypt, as in this sculpture, and accompanied by a bundle of arrows or a shield. In her animal form she can be represented as a fish or a bee.
