BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Lekythos; Attic, Greece, 5th century BC.
Ceramic with black figures,
Presents restoration in the neck area and lack of polychrome.
Measurements: 12,5 x 4,5 cm.
Lekythos of flat cylindrical base, ovoid body with a marked angle in the shoulders, high and narrow neck, flared mouth, thick, and wide vertical handle, in the form of a ribbon. It is decorated with the same glazes used on the red and black figure pottery, with simple geometric motifs.
The lekythos is a type of Greek pottery used to store perfumed oil for body care. This type of vessel was also widely used as funerary vessels. It is characterized by its elongated shape, narrow neck and wide mouth, which both limits the flow of the oil and facilitates its application.
