Spherical seal with lateral perforation for suspension, decorated with incised heraldic motif.
The Achaemenid seals were essential elements within the Persian imperial administration, used to seal documents, containers and merchandise, guaranteeing authenticity and control. Their small size and the usual presence of Punctures indicate that many of them were worn suspended, facilitating their daily use.
The heraldic iconography, frequent in the Achaemenid repertoire, responded to symmetrical compositional schemes that conveyed ideas of power, protection and legitimacy. Carved in hard stones such as carnelian, these seals combined practical functionality with a marked symbolic value within the material culture of the ancient Near East.
