The Achaemenid seals are one of the most characteristic manifestations of the administrative art of the ancient Near East. During the period of the Achaemenid Empire (529-323 BC), these objects played a fundamental role as instruments of authentication and control in the bureaucratic management of the vast imperial territory.

Animal iconography, especially the ibex, was a frequent motif, associated with symbolism of fertility, agility and mastery of nature. Usually carved in hard stones such as carnelian or flint, these seals could be used by direct printing or mounted on personal supports, reflecting both their practical function and their identity value within the Achaemenid material culture.
