DESCRIPTION
Ptah-Sokar-Osiris (solar Ptah).
Egypt, Lower Epoch, 664-332 B.C.
Carved and stuccoed wood with traces of polychrome.
Measurements: 42 x 11 x 10 cm.
Mummiform figure representing Ptah in its syncretic funerary aspect, linked to the solar cult and the osiric regeneration. The god appears standing, with body wrapped in shroud decorated with geometric lattice painted in black on an ocher background. He wears a polychrome usekh necklace and has a face modeled with a tripartite wig and features outlined in black.
On the front it preserves traces of vertical hieroglyphic inscription. The piece is hollow and has a removable lower assembly, a common feature of the figures of Ptah-Sokar-Osiris that could contain papyrus scrolls or ritual materials.
Visible traces of original polychrome in ocher, black and reddish tones. Wear, loss of stucco and erosion consistent with its age.
The figures of Ptah-Sokar-Osiris were especially popular during the Low Period and the Ptolemaic Period, associated with funerary rituals and the idea of solar rebirth. The combination of Ptah (creator god of Memphis), Sokar (funerary divinity) and Osiris (lord of the Beyond) synthesizes concepts of creation, death and regeneration, fundamental in the late Egyptian worldview.
A representative example of late Egyptian funerary art, where formal stylization and the persistence of traditional iconographic schemes can be observed.
