DESCRIPTION
Egyptian Ushebti. Lower Epoch, 664-332 BC.
Fayenza.
In good general condition. It presents superficial alterations according to its age.
Measurements: 19.5 cm (height); 2 x 4.5 x 5 cm (base).
Egyptian funerary figure ushebti type, intended to accompany the deceased in the afterlife and replace him in the agricultural work of the kingdom of Osiris. These pieces were part of the funerary trousseau and were deposited in large numbers inside the tomb.
The personage appears mummiform, with arms crossed on the chest, following the traditional iconography. On the body there are remains of a hieroglyphic inscription, probably corresponding to the usual formula of Chapter VI of the Book of the Dead, which magically activated the function of the ushebti.
Made of greenish faience, a characteristic material for its vitreous finish, the piece has the patina of antiquity, with chromatic variations that enrich its surface. This type of figures is representative of the production of the Low Period, when its use and proliferation is standardized.
