DESCRIPTION
Large Roman plate. 4th century A.D.
Glass
Intact (no breaks). Surface alterations and iridescence typical of its age.
Measurements: 6,5 x 25,5 x 25,5 cm.
Roman glass dish, open profile and annular base, characteristic of the late Roman productions of the fourth century AD. This type of pieces, for domestic use, reflects the high degree of technical development reached in the manufacture of glass in the Lower Empire.
The surface has an iridescent patina of greenish tones, the result of the process of chemical alteration of the glass over the centuries, a phenomenon especially appreciated in archaeological pieces for their aesthetic and testimonial value.
A representative example of late Roman tableware, where formal simplicity is combined with material quality, being today highly valued pieces in the collection of classical antiquities.
