Imposing sculpture belonging to the cultural sphere of Nayarit, famous for its large format figures that combine expressive strength, sculptural volume and a marked symbolic presence. These works, frequently linked to funerary contexts, were part of complex trousseaus deposited in shaft tombs, reflecting both the identity of the individual and aspects of daily life and social status.

The compositional frontality, characteristic of these productions, reinforces their hieratic character, while the rounded volumetry of the body reveals a sculptural conception based on solid masses and simplified forms.

The face, with schematic features, has almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose and a closed mouth, generating a restrained expression that oscillates between the introspective and the ceremonial. The head, crowned by an elevated headdress, accentuates the verticality of the figure and its possible link with a personage of relevance within the community.

The traces of manual modeling are still perceptible, underlining the artisanal character of the piece and its direct connection with the creative process.

This type of sculptures not only stand out for their aesthetic value, but also for their anthropological importance, offering a privileged window to the social structures, beliefs and funerary practices of the pre-Hispanic cultures of Western Mexico.
