Hadra hydria (Water jug). Greece, 3rd century BC.
Ceramic.

Measurements: 40 cm high; 31 cm wide.
Interesting hydria of the type called "Hadra", a characteristic production of the Hellenistic period mainly associated with funerary and domestic contexts in the eastern Mediterranean area, especially in Egypt (Alexandria) under Greek influence. These pieces, in addition to their function as water containers, were frequently used as cinerary urns, which reinforces their cultural and ritual relevance.
The vessel has a globular body on an annular foot, a raised cylindrical neck and a curved lip, accompanied by three handles -two horizontal ones for transport and a vertical one at the back for pouring-, a classic hydriai typology. The surface is decorated with motifs painted in dark tones on a light background, organized in registers: geometric borders on the neck and shoulder, and a main band with stylized vegetal decoration of great dynamism, a distinctive characteristic of Hadra ceramics.
Due to its size, state of preservation and decorative quality, it is a representative example of this typology, appreciated both for its archaeological value and its collector appeal.
