DESCRIPTION
God Osiris. Ancient Egypt. Late Epoch, 664-323 BC.
Bronze.
Provenance: Private collection, France.
Good state of preservation.
Measurements: 14,5 cm height; 16,5 cm. height with stand.
Bronze representation of the god Osiris, one of the fundamental divinities of the Egyptian pantheon, associated with regeneration, eternal life and the afterlife. The figure responds to the canonical iconography of the mummiform god, with the body wrapped in a tight shroud and arms crossed on the chest, in a posture that symbolizes his dominion over death and his role as ruler of the underworld.
The formal treatment, with compact volumes and a certain abstraction in the features, is characteristic of the productions of the Late Epoch, when the Egyptian workshops took up traditional models with a marked archaizing will. The head stands out, crowned by the atef, as well as the dark patina with earthy and greenish shades, the result of the natural aging of the bronze, which gives depth and authenticity to the piece.
