Representation of the goddess Hathor in her bovine form, one of the most emblematic images of the Egyptian pantheon. Associated to maternity, fertility and protection, Hathor was widely venerated, especially in funerary and domestic contexts.
The figure shows the animal in a recumbent position, with rounded forms and schematic treatment, typical of terracotta productions intended for popular devotion. The simple but expressive modeling conveys serenity and stability, while the compact volume reinforces its symbolic character.
These small pieces were used as votive or protective objects, reflecting the continuity of traditional Egyptian beliefs during the Roman period.
