DESCRIPTION
Udjad plate. Egypt. Lower Epoch, 664-323 B.C.
Fayenza.
In good state of preservation.
Measurements: 9.5 cm high; 8.3 cm long.
Plate in glazed faience representing the Udjat Eye or Eye of Horus, one of the most powerful and widespread symbols of the iconography of ancient Egypt, associated with protection, health and regeneration. The piece shows the characteristic stylized eye with its distinctive formal elements - brow, almond-shaped contour and facial markings - accompanied by linear and curvilinear motifs that reinforce its symbolic value.
The relief presents a clear and well-defined modeling, highlighted by the greenish glaze, typical of Egyptian faience, a material highly valued for its association with the divine and eternal. The lateral holes suggest its use as a fixing element, possibly as part of a decorative, architectural or funerary ensemble.
This type of representation was frequent in funerary contexts and amulets, where the Udjat Eye acted as a protector against evil forces and as a guarantor of physical and spiritual integrity in the afterlife.
The piece stands out for its good state of preservation and the legibility of its motifs, preserving patina and wear in accordance with its age.
