Stirrup-shaped vessel; Chimú-Hica culture, Peru, 1300–1600 CE
Black terracotta with incised decoration.
In good condition.
Measurements: 15 x 10 x 11 cm.
Stirrup-handled vessel made of black terracotta, representative of the ceramic tradition developed on the northern coast of Peru during the period of integration between the Chimú and Inca cultures. It features a globular body with a dark surface and incised decoration of geometric motifs arranged in bands, as well as the characteristic stirrup handle topped by a cylindrical neck.
The term Chimú-Inca (sometimes referred to as Chimú-Hica) describes the artistic production that emerged following the incorporation of the Chimú Kingdom into the Inca Empire in the 15th century. During this period, the refined Chimú pottery techniques were combined with Inca aesthetic and organizational elements, resulting in pieces of great technical quality and historical value. Polished black pottery is one of the most recognizable hallmarks of the Chimú tradition,
