DESCRIPTION
Bowl. Sasanian art, c. 224–651 CE.
Bronze.
Measurements: 16.3 cm in diameter; 3 cm in height.
Sasanian bronze bowl, low-profile and open-form, belonging to the refined metallurgical tradition of pre-Islamic Iran. The piece features a shallow body, a slightly raised rim, and a gently concave interior surface with a small circular protrusion in the center.
Sasanian metalwork achieved remarkable technical and artistic development, particularly in vessels, plates, and bowls intended for both prestigious domestic use and ceremonial contexts. In this example, formal restraint and the purity of the lines stand out above the ornamentation, highlighting the elegance of the form and the material quality of the bronze.
