DESCRIPTION
Female figurine; Rome, 2nd–3rd centuries A.D.
Bronze.
Measurements: 5 x 1.5 x 2 cm.
A female figure from the Roman Imperial period, cast in bronze and rendered in the characteristic stylistic language of small-scale Roman sculpture. The figure stands upright, wrapped in a wide cloak whose folds—rendered in a simplified manner—flow over the body and accentuate the verticality of the composition.
These small bronze figures were widely distributed throughout the Roman Empire and may have served religious, votive, or decorative purposes, forming part of the domestic environment or small places of worship. Their small size also made them easy to preserve and transport, making them particularly prized objects within Roman material culture.
