DESCRIPTION
Gothic capital; 14th–15th centuries.
Carved stone.
Measurements: 29 x 25 x 26 cm.
Featuring a highly sculptural plant motif. It displays a double crown of stylized leaves arranged in overlapping tiers, along with vertical leaf motifs that accentuate the piece’s upward movement. The carving combines sinuous contours and well-defined volumes, creating an interesting contrast of light and shadow that enhances the sculptural character of the piece.
Due to its formal characteristics, the piece is akin to the Gothic sculptural tradition developed in Catalonia during the 14th and 15th centuries. Notable points of comparison include the architectural capitals preserved at the monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants in Girona, as well as the medieval examples housed at the Frederic Marès Museum in Barcelona—collections of great interest for studying the evolution of ornamental styles in Catalan sculpture.
