DESCRIPTION
Andalusian capital from the 16th–17th centuries.
Carrara marble.
Measurements: 24 x 28 x 28 cm.
Corinthian-inspired “castañuelas” capital, carved from Carrara marble. Leaves unfurl from a cylindrical drum, encircling the truncated cone-shaped body. It features decoration based on leafy buds, enriching the Corinthian order with reinterpretations. The abacus is supported by fleshy volutes that curl at the corners. This piece exemplifies the free reinterpretation of classical orders characteristic of the Renaissance, giving rise to hybrid orders—as in this case—that blend the Ionic and Corinthian styles.
