DESCRIPTION
Two appliqués and a piece of a cauldron. Roman Empire, 2nd–3rd centuries A.D.
Bronze.
Provenance: O.C. Private Collection (Madrid).
Measurements: 6 x 3 cm (largest piece).
This lot consists of three bronze pieces: two are male heads, and the third is a cauldron fragment shaped like a theater mask. These three pieces offer a small glimpse into the variety of uses bronze had in the Roman Empire. Great bronze casters produced everything from life-size (or even larger-than-life) equestrian sculptures to small figures for private devotion.
