Idol; Africa, 20th century.
Carved wood.
Measurements: 83 x 29 x 30 cm.
African carved wooden idol, possibly of a ritual nature, depicted as a seated anthropomorphic figure with schematic features and a pronounced frontal orientation. It features a large head, protruding eyes, an elongated nose, a prominent mouth with geometric teeth, and elongated, punctured ears. The body, with angular and stylized forms, shows the arms resting on the bent knees, in a compact composition with great expressive power. The surface retains a dark patina, with wear and loss of material that bear witness to the passage of time and lend character to the piece.
