DESCRIPTION

Sculpture representing a dragon with a bird's beak and a horn from the Sichuan School. China, late Spring and Autumn period, 5th/2nd century BC.
Jade with greenish-gray shades.
A certificate of authenticity will be given to the buyer.
Measurements: 9 x 13 cm.

This sculpture intertwines a fantastic animal head (feline) with a wavy body with two snake heads. The first head ends in a bird's beak and a horn; the small rear head is held between two large legs with three claws.

The Spring and Autumn Period (771-476 BC) in China, although marked by conflict and political decentralization, was a crucial period for the country's cultural development. During this time, the foundations were laid for many traditions and thoughts that would endure in Chinese history. On the other hand, the Sichuan region has a rich history in sculpture, with examples including Buddhist sculptures, terracotta figures and other art forms.
