BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Dish; Qing Dynasty, Wanli period, 1573- 1619.
Underglaze glazed porcelain Doucai.
It has slight hair and slight restorations on the lip.
It has a seal on the base.
Measurements: 5 x 20 x 20 cm.
Glazed porcelain dish that presents a profuse ornamentation that extends throughout the piece. In the center a synthetic landscape is dominated by the presence of three lotus flowers whose reddish totality stands out over the others. A duck and a flying fish complete this landscape scene. On the eaves, following a rhythmic composition, flowers and a duck can be seen on the sides. Finally, a band of geometric motifs closes the design on the lip.
Doucai is a Chinese porcelain painting technique, where parts of the design and some contours of the rest are painted in blue underglaze and then the piece is glazed and fired.
Emperor Wanli ruled China from 1573 to 1620, towards the end of the Ming dynasty period, which lasted more than three centuries, until 1644. During Wanli's reign, porcelain manufacturers increasingly produced pieces for the export market to European countries such as the Netherlands, as well as for the burgeoning domestic market.
