DESCRIPTION
Jewelry box; China, Qing dynasty, nineteenth century.
Wucai glazed porcelain.
It has apocryphal marks on the base "Wanli".
Measurements: 4.5 x 10.5 x 10.5 cm.
Jewelry box with a porcelain lid. The piece has a great ornamentation, highlighting the central dragon on the lid. Wucai is a style of white Chinese porcelain decoration in a limited range of five colors; red, green, black and blue. Wucai porcelain was developed during the Ming and Qing dynasties and is distinguished by the application of colored glazes on the underglaze blue base. Unlike the doucai technique, Wucai has larger areas painted with the glazes and does not have blue outlines for the entire design, although it can also use underglaze blue.
